It’s quite a well made European (militaristic) propaganda video with a catchy tune and proper lyrics too.

Another title is needed. The term “Fortress Europe” is too tightly associated with fascism (literally the Nazis used it during WW2 until 1942 for territories occupied by Italy and Germany) and, more recently, with the European immigration and refugee politics of closed borders and FRONTEX pushbacks. Luckily it’s not repeated in the song itself.

(Also, this clearly wants to be covered by Sabaton.)

add>“Fortress Europe” is too tightly associated with fascism

Interesting, never crossed my mind I know of the phenomena. Hell, just 100 m from where I live, entire streets & houseblocks were leveled as part of the Atlantic Walle (#1) The area was later rebuild as a large street with parks.

When I first saw the video I was sceptical because militaire propaganda is often associated with fascism. The content maker has probably the right intention but it still needs streamlining. There is another vid in his chanel that suddenly mentions China as our partner of democracy?!. So there are some weird things.

Helll, just 100 m from where I live, entire streets & houseblocks were leveled as part of the Atlantic Walle.

The term was deemed “too defensive sounding” by nazi Germany from 1942 onward and replaced by other terms like Atlantikwall.

The song itself is quite ambiguous. Can be used both by progressive european federalists and nationalists/fascist, depending on the context.

          nationalists/fascist

Yep, they will use anything any book, song, symbol, idea, technology, and appropriate it for their nefarious horrific (genocidal) ends.

Like probably many people know, the swastika was appropriated by Hitler from an ancient indo Euroasian symbol for lifeforce, happiness and sanctaty.

But yes , I agree, if that’s the point: no sane person would use that symbol or other associated ones anymore.

Because the meaning and the charge it now has. Same goes for songs and lyrics, especially in these trying sceptical times. We must remain watchful.

So no disrespect was intented, nor was it meant as glorification of fascism. I was maybe naively so, in the mindset of a United Europe atmosphere.

added: just realised that as geopolitics are changing dramatically, it does fuel a more national European sense of belonging.

This feeling triggers our Trauma with Fascism ofcourse, and invokes rational and logical fears of a fascist resurgence. Especially in the light of the extreme right. It is hard to find yourself in the position were you wish to protect and defend your way of life, culture, identity, borders, friends and family, whilst not fearing becoming a monster yourself.

We have come a long way since ww 2, and we need to defend and guard our hard earned Human Rights and equality based society, empathy, and democratic values & lifestyle, on all levels. So this goes for the individual, regional and European, and all other levels.
