A judge is set to rule on whether Le Pen and her National Rally party embezzled European Parliament funds. She and 24 other party officials are accused of having used money intended for European Union parliamentary aides to instead pay staff who worked for the party between 2004 and 2016, violating the 27-nation bloc’s regulations.

    It’s France, tons of politicians have been found of guilty of “stealing taxpayermoney” without much impact on their carreer.

    let’s say she’s banned from running to election for 3 years, true, she misses the 2027 presidential election, but she’ll be back in 2032, and can still have a party leadership position, can still run to 2029 European election.

      I think by 2032 we’ll either all be dead or anti European parties will be far less relevant. I don’t see things going downhill at a steady pace for that much longer.

    She herself answer the question posed in the title: “this could be the end of my political career”, and further:

    Le Pen appears to be anticipating a guilty verdict, telling the panel of three judges: “I feel we didn’t succeed in convincing you.”

    In case of conviction, the court could impose a period where she is ineligible to run for office “with immediate effect” — even if she files an appeal.
