Democrats have no more interest in safeguarding democracy than Republicans do. If they did, they wouldn’t continue using their ratchet effect that prevents Republican legislation from ever slipping back. And as Republicans keep shifting even further to the right, democrats continue to fill the void that Republicans just left.
