Trump is the only person I’ve ever heard complain about the trade deficit. I don’t think even the crazy libertarians ever talked about it. It’s just such a weird obsession of his.

At least that’s what they’re proposing. Not nearly enough, but none of the crazy stuff you see from right wing nationalists (criminalising abortion, banning divorce, removing access to contraception, etc).
While I’m sure Putin loves this candidate as well, he was supported by another party within the country. And by deliver for the people, I mean end austerity. If people all have housing, food, jobs, etc, they’re not going to fall for the far right playbook.
It’s a shitshow if you look at it closely. Basically he got so many votes because the ruling party wanted to try the pied piper strategy that gave the US Trump. That included giving his campaign illegal support, which invalidated the previous election. And now they’re just outright going to ban him. They’re just throwing away democracy and pretending they’re saving democracy.
Not that I want the guy to win or be anywhere near power, but it’s a strategy that will backfire eventually and has in many countries. But I guess the alternative is to actually deliver for the people and that’s obviously unacceptable.
It is showing that there’s a lot of work to be done to deal with the spam issue. It’s basically relying on every individual instance admin to moderate their stuff and defederate from other instances that drop the ball. If Lemmy gets big enough for spammers to really try to attack it, the admins will quickly get overwhelmed.
Yeah, I still don’t know if the whole Russian spy thing is serious or not. He’s definitely doing everything to deconstruct the US empire, but it was already on its way down regardless anyway, and it can all basically be explained by incompetence or greed too.
Sweden as well.
And it shows that European countries need to stop buying American weapons.
And even if someone makes a fortune abroad, they’ll still generally invest their profits in Wall Street.
And even if they don’t, their country will buy US dollars to keep in their reserves and buy oil.
